Ok – here is this week’s suggestion for something you can do this summer (and beyond) with your kids to make a difference to someone in some way.

A year ago we heard about this non-profit with a great mission – Savvy Giving By Design.

Here is their mission as listed on their website, savvygivingbydesign.org:

OUR MISSION: Savvy Giving by Design™ is a non-profit, national network of professional interior designers whose mission is to provide comfort, support, and healing to families with a child facing a medical crisis by transforming the interior spaces of their homes at no cost to them.

They create rooms to heal.  Check out their website, savvygivingbydesign.org.  They have chapters across the country where you can volunteer.  If there isn’t a chapter in your area and you and your family want to get involved with this great non-profit, you can organize a fund raiser and donate the proceeds to them.

Fund raising ideas for kids:

  • Lemonade or ice tea stand
  • Neighborhood bake sale
  • Ask local businesses if they can donate something that you can then sell tickets to raffle off.
  • Make greeting cards and sell them
  • Organize a neighborhood lawn mowing day.

I’m sure you and your kids can come up with other creative ways to raise money that you can then donate to them.  Have your kids enlist the help of their friends so they can also be part of making a difference.

And – as always, if you know someone who is having surgery or is looking for resources to prepare for medical encounters, please share “Surgery Day” and send them our way.
